Looking Ahead

Dear Emory Community,
As announced yesterday, I will complete my presidency at Emory and become chancellor of the university on September 1. The role of chancellor has existed in various forms throughout Emory’s history, and I am honored that the Board of Trustees has reconstituted it during this important moment so that I may focus on advocating for our mission through engagement at the national level and by working closely with Emory’s benefactors.
I am thrilled that in the fall Emory will welcome Justice Leah Ward Sears as interim president. I’ve had the privilege of working with Justice Sears in her capacity as a trustee during my tenure. Her dedication to Emory is remarkable. She is thoughtful, driven, and cares deeply about this community. Her professional accomplishments are numerous, and she will bring a wealth of talent and experience to her new role. I am excited to see all that Justice Sears will accomplish for our great university and stand ready to support her in any way that I can.
These five years at Emory have been profoundly rewarding for Carmel and me, and Atlanta has become our home. As a community, we accomplished a lot together and the university is poised for continued success. As I often say to our graduates, this is not an end but a new beginning. I am proud to continue to serve Emory as chancellor, and I look forward to working hard over these next three months to provide a seamless transition.
Sincerely,
Gregory L. Fenves
President
